It’s been cold and rainy in Alentejo today so I decided to cheer up the house by making a simple DIY winter rosemary wreath.
I love using rosemary for all sorts of things. The rosemary I planted a couple of years ago is doing really well so I decided to make a DIY winter rosemary wreath out of the scented herb. Not much else is growing in our area as yet as we have had a very dry winter so far. In November I gathered some of the dry grasses to put in a vase inside which I think looks lovely but I wanted something green to remind us that spring is coming.
Winter rosemary
We’re lucky that rosemary grows so well and keeps its beautiful green foliage all year round. I wanted to add some natural décor to the house to cheer it up during the winter season.
Making a DIY winter rosemary wreath
I love wreaths and think they add a lovely touch to the house. To start with I gathered some branches of rosemary, and dug out the wreath frame I have. I used this wreath frame to make a periwinkle wreath earlier in the year. My DIY winter rosemary wreath turned out to be even easier than using the periwinkle. The stems are so flexible and tough that I just had to weave then through the frame and they stayed put.
I took care to make sure they were all going in the same direction and started from the outside. I kept working round the wreath frame, filling any gaps as I went. When I had a good coverage all over the frame, I stepped back to see if any of the frame was still showing. I also checked if there were any uneven patches and added smaller pieces of rosemary to fill it out.
I’m really pleased with how it turned out, and it smells lovely every time I pass it!
