Hi, I’m Miriam. My husband and I are building a life in the Alentejo region of Portugal, with three chickens, two cats and a huge fig tree. We are in a beautiful rural area, where shepherds still walk their flock of sheep across the hills to graze, and people collect their daily water from the well, or Fonte, at the bottom of our hill.
After years living and working in the UK we decided to try a new way of life. I’m a country girl at heart so this journey is my idea of heaven; learning to live a simpler life more in tune with the seasonal rhythms of the countryside, exploring how the Portuguese people around us create a lot out of a little, and indulging my own creativity any chance I get!
This blog is my story of learning to live in a new country – a record of what we are learning, what goes wrong and what we manage to achieve.
